Derek Green

Derek serves on our Practice Development team, helping extend the firm’s services into specialized industries and other trusted networks where clients have distinctive needs, such as aviation, law enforcement, dentistry, professional sports and entrepreneurship. Derek also serves as our Sports Operations Manager, taking sports clients through the onboarding process and working with wealth managers to help ensure a smooth process with custodians.

Prior to joining Creative Planning, Derek spent two years in Europe playing professional football. Splitting time between Italy, France and Sweden, he was able to help grow the game across the globe. As the captain of his team, Derek was also able to rally the community and work with local schools to share his passion while educating youths about the sport. He continues to do so as a volunteer coach at his alma mater, Rockhurst High School.

Derek received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance from Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he was a three-year letterman as quarterback of the football team. During his time at SMU, Derek was able to gain experience on the financial field as well, working with a multifamily investment office serving ultra-high-net-worth families. Derek was able to combine two of his biggest passions, sports and finance, when he joined the Creative Planning team in 2024.

When Derek has free time, he enjoys traveling, playing & watching sports, trying new foods, working outdoors and engaging in fitness activities.
