Dan Turnquist

Daniel Turnquist is a Partner and Senior Business Advisor at Creative Planning Business Services, bringing over 30 years of experience in business operations, financial advisory, and complex transaction management. His background spans mergers and acquisitions, turnaround consulting, corporate reorganizations, bankruptcy, receivership, and structured liquidations.

Daniel has served in a variety of executive and fiduciary roles including Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Receiver, Assignee, Liquidating Agent, and Restructuring Advisor. He has led engagements across a broad set of industries, including hospitality, retail, technology, energy, transportation, mining, and restaurants. His transactional experience includes business sales, refinancings, acquisitions, and wind-downs—often involving distressed or operationally complex businesses.

Before joining Creative Planning, Daniel spent 14 years as an executive with a retail and hospitality holding company, as well as a commercial real estate firm focused on acquisition, development, leasing, and property management of retail and office assets.

Daniel has led numerous high-impact engagements across the country. He served as Receiver and sale advisor for a high-end metal fabricator in Nevada and was appointed Receiver for a silver mine in Colorado. In Nebraska, he oversaw the receivership and sale of a biochemical plant, and in Minnesota, he managed the receivership and sale of an ethanol production facility. He also acted as Receiver and sale advisor for a multi-unit restaurant company with operations across North Dakota and Minnesota.

In addition to these roles, Daniel served as Assignee and Liquidating Agent for a large less-than-truckload (LTL) trucking company based in Minnesota. His real estate experience includes acting as Receiver for multiple commercial properties in various stages of development, lease-up, and disposition.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gustavus Adolphus College. He is a past or current member of the Turnaround Management Association (Upper Midwest Chapter), the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants, and formerly served as Chair of the Minnesota Retailers Association. He is a two-time recipient of the Turnaround Management Association’s Transaction of the Year Award (2021 and 2024).
