Clay serves as a Managing Director and works closely with other financial professionals at Creative Planning to ensure proper creation, execution, and ongoing maintenance of the comprehensive wealth management goals of each client that he supports. He believes that the foundation for a great client experience starts with trust, transparency and candor, but just as important is the need for the financial professional to have the skills, credentials, and organizational support to help turn a great plan into something meaningful and valuable for the client that will stand the test of time.
Clay understands the stress and anxiety that clients experience when they don’t have full faith and confidence in their plan. For this reason, he gets great satisfaction when a client finally gets that financial peace of mind that comes along with having a plan that makes sense, has a dedicated expert in each critical component of the process, and with checkpoints along the way to help deal with and prepare for stock market gyrations and client life events.
Clay has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry working at three major financial services firms in a variety of roles starting in service, later to sales, and recently in executive leadership. The common theme in all of these roles was the passion and desire required to help improve the financial well-being of clients in a meaningful and significant way.
Clay received his bachelor’s degree in Finance at Arizona State University and also from Barrett Honors College. Clay also received a leadership certificate from Washington University in St. Louis and had two years of executive training and coaching from Right Management with a dedicated executive coach.
Clay and his wife Paula currently reside in Chesterfield, MO with two beautiful boys – a six year old named Jake, and a three year old named Ben who has autism. In his spare time, Clay likes to read up on financial related matters, spend time with his family, and cook on his cherished “Big Green Egg” where his specialty is his 22-hour brisket with beautifully dark red smoke rings.
